If the EPUB has no fixed print pagination, the tool starts with an estimated page count and lets you replace it with the page total shown by your own reader.

Progress in context

How the progress estimate works

The Reading Planner estimates how long a book will take to read based on its word count and your chosen pace. It is an honest tool to help you plan your reading sessions.

The catalog's median word count is 84,270, with a median reading time of 367 minutes. Use these numbers as a baseline.

Quick & Steady

Short books (under 50,000 words) and those with lower reading times can be finished in a few sittings. The catalog has 5 quick reads and 11 steady ones.

Immersive Reads

Most books fall into this range, with reading times between 6 and 10 hours. The catalog has 56 immersive titles.

Marathon Books

Epic tomes exceed 150,000 words or take over 10 hours. The catalog has 26 marathon books, like 'The Mysteries of London' at 445,728 words.

Reading Tracker

Planning Your Reading with the Tracker

The Reading Tracker at OUHNA is a simple tool for making steady progress through a book. It records your current page, the total pages, and a daily page goal, then calculates how many days remain. The tracker does not measure sections or minutes; it is page-based, which keeps the focus on a concrete, achievable target.

Setting a Realistic Daily Goal

The default daily goal is 20 pages, which is a reasonable starting point for many readers. For a book like Beyond the Gates — Reading Notes, which has an estimated 164 pages (40,960 words at 250 words per page), that goal leads to a finish in about 9 days. If you have more time, you can raise the goal and finish sooner; if your schedule is tight, you can lower it and accept a longer timeline.

The tracker's math is transparent: estimated finish days are the remaining pages divided by your daily goal, rounded up. This means you can experiment with different goals to see how they affect your completion date. The tool does not judge your pace; it simply shows the consequences of your choices.

Adjusting Total Pages to Your Edition

The initial page count is an estimate based on a standard 250 words per page. If you are reading an ebook with a different layout, or a print edition, the page numbers will differ. The tracker allows you to replace the total page count with the number shown by your own reading app or edition. This is important because the estimated minutes are proportional to the page count: if your edition has more pages, the remaining time will scale up accordingly.

For example, if you are reading Beyond the Gates in an edition with 180 pages instead of 164, the estimated remaining time increases proportionally. The tracker recalculates automatically, so your progress remains accurate to your copy.

Tracking Without an Account

Progress history is stored in your browser's localStorage, which means no account is required and your data stays on your device. This is a privacy-friendly approach that makes the tracker easy to use on any computer or tablet. The trade-off is that your progress will not sync across devices, so you should stick to one browser for a given book.

The tracker is designed to support a single reading project at a time, which encourages focus. Once you finish a book, you can clear the history and start a new one. This simplicity is a strength: it keeps the act of tracking from becoming a chore.
